Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site Field Trip

On Friday, September 26th, our class participated in the Fifth Grade Live-In Program at the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Park. This was the 1840's home of Thomas and Sarah Bush Lincoln, father and stepmother of our 16th president. Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer living in Springfield by the time his parents lived here, but he did visit them periodically. After we arrived at the site, we were transported back in time to the year 1845. The girls wore dresses, while the boys wore 1840's shirts. They spent the day performing duties and chores typical of an 1840's farm. The girls prepared the meal, sewed quilt squares, and dipped candles, while the boys mucked the barn, split rails for the fence, and sawed wood. In the afternoon, we visited the Lincoln Log Cabin Visitor Center and toured the Sargent Farm.

You will find the "Voice Thread" the students created with the images provided by Mr. Ghere. They wrote what they had learned when we returned from our visit, and spent the next week recording their voices. Some were nervous as they spoke knowing their voices would go "online" for the first time. I hope you enjoy looking and listening, and will take the time to comment, if you would like. You cannot help but smile at what they have to say.
